15、Spoils Harvesting After Shedding the Facade Whe ...

  • When dawn broke fully, sunlight streamed through the cracks in the curtains, casting dappled shadows across the floor.

Jin Yu woke first. The first thing he saw when he opened his eyes was Gao Jiajia curled in his arms. She slept peacefully, her long lashes like two tiny fans resting gently on her eyelids. The sunlight fell on her face, making her skin look almost translucent.

A surge of unprecedented satisfaction and happiness welled up in Jin Yu’s chest. He thought the best decision he had ever made was not giving up last night. He had finally won the woman he had dreamed of for so long.

He carefully pulled his arm away, terrified of waking her, then slipped out of bed and tiptoed into the kitchen to make breakfast.

He had never cooked a meal in his life—he always ate takeout or dined at restaurants. But today, he wanted to make breakfast for Gao Jiajia with his own hands. He fumbled with frying two eggs and burnt them. Then he boiled a pot of milk and let it boil over. After half an hour of struggling, he managed to put together a breakfast that looked barely edible.

That was when Gao Jiajia woke up. She walked to the kitchen doorway and couldn’t help smiling at his flustered figure.

Jin Yu heard the laugh and turned around, a sheepish grin spreading across his face when he saw her. "Jiajia, you’re awake? Come eat breakfast. It’s my first time making it, so it might not be very good."

Gao Jiajia walked over, picked up a slice of toast, and took a bite. It tasted terrible, but she smiled anyway. "It’s delicious. Anything you make is delicious."

Jin Yu’s heart swelled with joy.

After breakfast, Gao Jiajia went into the bedroom to get ready. She applied a flawless makeup look, picked out a pretty floral dress, and slipped on her heels. She spun once in front of the mirror, looking stunningly beautiful.

Jin Yu stood behind her, staring transfixed.

Gao Jiajia turned around, linked her arm through his, and smiled. "Come on, let’s go shopping."

Jin Yu nodded eagerly. "Okay, wherever you want to go."

They left the house, and Jin Yu drove his Land Rover straight to the most upscale mall in the city center.

Before, Gao Jiajia would never have gone shopping with Jin Yu, let alone let him buy her things. But things were different now. She had him wrapped completely around her finger—there was no need to pretend anymore.

Instead of rejecting his generosity as she had before, she became open and direct.

Walking into a luxury boutique, Gao Jiajia spotted the latest designer handbag and pointed straight at it. "This one’s pretty. I want it."

Jin Yu pulled out his card and swiped it without a second thought.

Passing a jewelry store, Gao Jiajia tried on a diamond necklace and glanced at herself in the mirror. "This would go perfectly with the dress I wore yesterday."

"Wrap it up," Jin Yu said immediately.

For lunch, Gao Jiajia took him to the most expensive French restaurant in the city. She picked up the menu and ordered only the priciest dishes—truffle, foie gras, caviar—filling the table with food.

By the end of the day, Gao Jiajia had spent over thirty thousand yuan of Jin Yu’s money.

Jin Yu didn’t begrudge a single penny. On the contrary, he was overjoyed. In his eyes, spending money on the woman he loved was the greatest happiness imaginable. The fact that Gao Jiajia was willing to take his money meant she saw him as her man.

He had no idea this was just Gao Jiajia’s harvest phase.

Her earlier refusal of his money had been a calculated move to establish a high-value persona, making Jin Yu think she was not a materialistic woman and thus cherish her even more, making it impossible for him to let her go. Now that she controlled everything, she could spend his money freely—both as a form of conditioning and as the reward for her months of planning.

Gao Jiajia watched him pay without hesitation and felt no gratitude whatsoever. She only thought that her eight months of careful plotting had finally paid off.

She had not only turned the man who had once wanted to kill her from a grim reaper into her personal bodyguard, but also into her own personal ATM. From now on, she would never have to work grueling overtime again, never have to kowtow to anyone else. Whatever she wanted, Jin Yu would buy it for her.

This was the life she had wanted.

That evening, they returned home loaded down with armfuls of spoils.

Gao Jiajia tossed the bags carelessly onto the sofa, then walked to the entryway and shifted her feet slightly, a faint look of tiredness crossing her face.

      She said nothing.

      But Jin Yu understood immediately.
