鉴于Agnes的双重身份，我不确定下面这个段落附近到底是说反话不安，还是暗示Ricky对Agnes的爱，涉及Gerald有点怪怪的。
Ricky…He dared not meet Miss Pembroke: he loved her.这里结合前面老是对Ansell撒谎，我倒是觉得解读成Ricky/M对Pembroke/Agnes/F的爱，倒是对的。不敢见，其实是爱，是怕控制不了。这事情M倒是经常干，从第八个，到刚结婚不见面。两个傻孩子都在煎熬，偏偏写出来的那个得到同情和谅解，憋到内伤的那个少有人懂。连自己最爱，最希望保全的那个都差点不理解自己。
这里Foster能不能认识到Ricky/M心里的曲折，我就不确定了。
要是Foster错把它理解成Ricky/M爱Agnes我也没办法了。
看过后文和风房就知道，这是最后给F机会，试探F能为两人未来做出多少打算。

This displeased him. He determined to think a little about Gerald instead. Then the fabric collapsed.本来就是嫉妒，就是觉得时间不够分。担心爱敌不过时间，是么？担心爱迟早会逝去的吧。
担心曾经自己的爱敌不过时间，最终会被M对妻子的爱取代吧。
这是描述F眼中，Ricky/M对于过去的爱Gerald/过去的F的珍惜和呵护。在F眼中，当Ricky/M无法保护过去的爱，快要遗忘的时候，M奔溃了，哭了。最终Ricky意识死去，获得新生。
