Extra Story
KTV, Night.
A dozen people sat around a round table. The overhead lights flickered nonstop, wrapped in noise. The air smelled sharply of alcohol and chemicals mixed together.
“Hey, Shi Qi, smile a little.” Lin Jiao, the host of the party, moved next to him and handed over a glass. “I finally dragged you out. At least give me some face.”
“No thanks.” Shi Qi declined. “I don’t drink.”
“Fine.” Lin Jiao curled his mouth in disappointment and set his own glass aside.
Shi Qi fell silent for a moment, then spoke. “You promised. Where is it?”
“You mean Feng Yi?” Lin Jiao casually pointed toward the inner room. “There. He’s waiting for you.”
Shi Qi stood up at once, went out, and opened the door to the private room.
He looked around but saw no one. When he turned back, he found Lin Jiao had also entered and closed the door behind him.
“What are you doing?” Shi Qi’s gaze darkened. “What’s the meaning of this?”
“What am I doing?” Lin Jiao smiled. “Now I understand why a playboy like Feng Yi was only serious about you.”
Shi Yi seemed to guess what was coming. His eyes dimmed, and he stepped back quietly.
“Heh, scared?” Lin Jiao shrugged, the corner of his mouth lifting. “Could the fearless Dr. Shi actually be afraid?”
“Cut the crap.” Shi Qi stared at him coldly. “I admit I used to like Feng Yi. But not anymore. I won’t fall in love with anyone again. No one stays stubborn after getting hurt like this. I’m not that stupid.”
“Right.” Lin Jiao smiled gracefully, as if no one else was around. “Dr. Shi would never be stupid enough to fall twice. But things are different now. My position is not like his.
You can give me a chance. I’m not like Feng Yi. I’d never abandon you for something shallow.
What do you say, Dr. Shi? Think about it.”
Shi Qi looked at him for a long time before speaking.
“I said I won’t love anyone again. Not Feng Yi, not you either.”
Love was like poison. The deeper you fell, the more addicted you became — and the harder it was to quit.
Love was just a phase in a long life. You could live perfectly well without it. So why cling to it?
“You say you’ve let go.” Lin Jiao stepped forward, closing in on Shi Qi. He stared at his handsome, slightly haggard face, placed one hand on his chest, and gently stroked his heart. His low voice brushed his ear.
“But have you… really let go?”
“No. You haven’t.” Lin Jiao answered his own question. “If you had, you wouldn’t still be obsessed with meeting Feng Yi. You wouldn’t zone out when you hear his name. You wouldn’t keep showing that sadness and longing without noticing.”
“Dr. Shi… you’ve just been lying to yourself this whole time.”
Shi Qi lowered his head and said nothing.
Lin Jiao huffed a laugh at his expression and stepped back a little.
“It’s not impossible for you to see Feng Yi, you know.”
“I wasn’t lying earlier. He is coming to this party. You will get your chance.”
Shi Qi’s eyes flickered. His lips moved, as if he wanted to say something, but in the end, he stayed silent.
Lin Jiao twirled his car key between his fingers, his gaze lowered, his tone casual.
“Even though you rejected me just now… for the sake of our six-year friendship, I’ll warn you.
Feng Yi married Yan Xu from the Yan family a week ago.
If nothing goes wrong… you’ll see him tonight.”
