2、Chinese Poems ...

  • Bright moon, when did you appear Lifting my wine, I question the dark night sky. Tonight in the palaces and halls of heaven what year is it, I wonder I would like to reach it by the wind, but afraid of jade buildings and gem houses belongs to the Lord. I could not bear the cold of high altitudes. So I rise and dance and play in your pure beams and shadows, this human world — how can it compare with yours
Circling front red cottage, low in the curtained door, you shine on the sleepless. Surely you treat us no ill will —why then must you be so round at times when we get apart! People have their grief and joys, their togetherness and separation. The moon has its dark and clear times, its waxing and waning. It’s always like this; it was unsatisfied from an old period. Hope our relationship can last forever, we may share the moon\'s beauty even though we are a hundred miles apart.
Su Shi was a writer, poet, artist, calligrapher, pharmacologist, and one of the major poets of the Song era. His courtesy name was Zizhan and his pseudonym was Dongpo Jushi. Besides his renowned poetry, his other extant writings are of great value in the understanding of 11th century Chinese travel literature.

1.Ancient Chinese poets used to write poems with monosyllabic words, which made it very difficult to translate ancient Chinese poems into English.
2.Ancient Chinese poets often use allusions to express their current feelings, because it can avoid their poems being suspected by the king.

      Like this:
Ba Mountain and Chu River desolate place, I was 23 years abandoned.
The writer was demoted in Ba Mountain and Chu River for 23 years.

Reminiscent of the past, singing the flute Fu in the air*, I was turning in the countryside like a rotten Ke*.
Fu is a kind of passengers.
Ke is a kind of wood.
      *1:
Refers to the \"old thought Fu\" of Xiang Jin in the Western Jin Dynasty. At the end of the Three Kingdoms period, Xiang Xiu\'s friends Ji Kang and Lu an were killed because they were dissatisfied with Sima\'s usurpation of power. Later, when Xiang Xiu passed through Ji Kang\'s and Lu an\'s old houses, he heard his neighbors playing the flute. He could not help but feel sad, so he wrote \"Ode to the past\". The preface says: I passed through Ji Kang\'s old house, because I wrote this Fu to remember him. Liu Yuxi used this allusion to remember the dead Wang Shuwen, Liu Zongyuan and others.
[Wang Shuwen, Liu Zongyuan and others died of their new justice, Liu(writer) alive because he was a small role in that policy]
      *2:
This refers to the king of the Jin Dynasty. It is said that Wang Zhi, a man of Jin Dynasty, went up the mountain to cut firewood. When he saw two boys playing chess, he stopped to watch. When the game is over, the handle of the axe is rotten. When I returned to the village, I realized that it had been 100 years. My contemporaries are dead. The author expresses his feelings about being demoted for 23 years. Liu Yuxi also uses this story to express the vicissitudes of the world, human affairs are not, and returning home in his old age feels like a world apart.
This poem has 5 examples like this, but it only has 28 words! [Amazing!!
      巴山楚水凄凉地,二十三年弃置身。
      怀旧空吟闻笛赋,到乡翻似烂柯人。
      沉舟侧畔千帆过,病树前头万木春。
      今日听君歌一曲,暂凭杯酒长精神。
Ps: the writer Liu Yuxi lived in the last of Tang Dynasty.
      3. Ancient Chinese poets sometimes use the lines of former poets to show their respect
      Like this:
Cut off the branches of cinnamon trees swaying in the middle of the month, People say that it will make the moon shed more light on the earth.
      By Xin Qiji, Song Dynasty
[The whole word is rich in imagination, which combines the surreal fantastic ideas with the ideological contradictions in reality, reflecting a strong romantic color.]
This sentence was changed from this:
If you cut down the osmanthus trees in the middle of the month, will the brightness of the moon be clearer
      By Du Fu, Tang Dynasty.
[The use of mythology in the poem not only shows the poet\'s spiritual world, but also has romantic color and unique characteristics. It can be called a masterpiece with both real and broad thoughts and feelings and perfect artistic techniques.]

It’s already the same in English, but in Chinese they have a big difference: The two poems are of different genres.
The first is a ci, a type of classical Chinese poetry, originating in the Tang Dynasty and fully developed in the Song Dynasty
The second is a The five character quatrain, a kind of traditional Chinese poetry, which refers to the five character and four sentence poems that conform to the rules of poetry, and belongs to the category of modern poetry. This style originated from Yuefu Poems of Han Dynasty, deeply influenced by folk songs of Six Dynasties, and matured in Tang Dynasty. Five unique, each only 20 words, can show a fresh picture, convey a variety of real artistic conception. The most distinctive feature of the short chapter is that it contains rich content.
[Ps: The rhyme is very strict, is called the strictest poem in the world.]
